3 Line Summary: After a long and arduous search for a Steam Mop to ensure germ and dust free floors, have zeroed in on Xiolife Champion Steam Mop and I am delighted with the results after having used it for 30 days. Look no further if you are looking for a quality and VFM Steam Mop!

Xiolife Champion Steam Mop

After having purchased the Karcher Water based Vacuum Cleaner (review pending), I have been on the hunt for a good quality steam mop for almost 3-4 months. Let me address why and what first before I take you through the review.

Why Steam Mop?
1. I am sick and tired of Lysol, Dettol etc. They do not effectively clean as advertised and also our maids are not that efficient in using it. Steam mops use plain water, so bye bye cleaning solutions. This works wonder for my son and his allergies and also for me who hates those artificial smell!

2. They are the best solution to keep your floors Germ and dust free PERIOD. They help in eliminating good amount of germs and dust. I wont say 99.9% as advertised but to a good extent they do eliminate germs. Being a cleanliness freak, I am satisfied with the results. The hot steam is good enough to clean most of the nasty germs.

3. SIMPLE and EASY cleaning. I always hate to see the mop head after 10 days of use. In spite of cleaning it, it always looks dirty and given we have plastic head in those we cannot really clean them in washing machine, making it difficult to wash 100%. Steam mop, you remove the Microfiber cloth, throw it in the washing machine, viola you have a clean mop head!!!

4. It might look as if it costs a lot in terms of price compared to the traditional mop and cleaning solution route but in the longer run it actually becomes cheaper. Per month we used to spend around 300-400 rs for cleaning agents and mop head. That's around 4800 Rs per year but Champion Steam mop is just 3999 Rs with one year warranty! You do the Maths.

What did I research on?
Here are the brands considered:

1. H2O X5 Steam Mop:  This is an awesome mop and was well recommended by Good Housekeeping with A rating. It comes with multiple add-ons and is a perfect all round solution. But the biggest problem was getting a Genuine H2O product. The market is flooded with fake products and service is a major question mark. Repeated emails to the company yielded no result which meant this was out of question.

2. Black and Decker 1621:Excellent mop and was really powerful (demoed it). But at 11000 INR, I felt it was way too costly for my needs.

3. Karcher 1.020: Well Karcher is one of my favourite brands. They are built to last and are awesome in service. But the design is like a regular vacuum cleaner which is not a friendly design for a mop. Though this is an all rounder, which will help in cleaning tiles, kitchen etc I know it will not serve my purpose due to the effort required to use. I was clear I wanted a MOP!

My Choice: Xiolife Champion Steam Mop:

Why I choose this?
1. This product had good reviews
2. It was made in India and has service centre in India. The company has its own website and FB page which is active.
3. A service request lodged on the site resulted in them calling in 48 hrs. They offered free pick-up from my house in Chennai, and delivery post repair.
4. I feel this is the same Steam Mop branded and sold in USA as "Shark S3101"steam mop which has very good review.

I am not going to explain in detail about the product and waste time. You can read about the product at : Xiolife Champion Steam Mop or you can watch this video:

Xiolife Champion Steam Mop Review:
This is basically a Steam Mop designed to act like a traditional mop by design (upright design). The product has the following components in the box:
1. The steam head along with water tank
2. Handle and extension
3. Carpet cleaner attachment
4. Measuring cup
5. 15 amp to 5 amp converter (very thoughtful addition given that most houses do not have 15 amp in all rooms!)
6. Two microfibre pads.

How do you use it:
1. Assemble the components as per the instruction manual. Its very easy.

Assembled and ready!
2. Fill water in the Water Cylinder little less than max level. I suggest you use RO water or distilled water if you can. This will prevent calcium build up. Just a suggestion, tap water works fine. I used both and they work fine.
3. Attach the microfibre pad to the Steam Head. This pad is awesome. The pad has velcro and it fits perfectly. Keep the pad down and press the steam mop on it and the velcro stick on. Its so easy, my 3.5 yrs old does it!

4. Plug the adapter and switch it on.
5. Wait for 1 min. Now press the handle down to check the steam. This is a mechanism thats not well explained in the manual. Basically, the handle is like a bike suspension mechanism. When you push it down, it released a spurt of steam. This is a good system because when you push the mop the steam automatically get released as the handle is pushed down.
5. Thats it, you are ready to mop. The cable is long and can easily cover one room. Use it like how you mop with you regular mop and see the surface become clean in no time :). The steam head can swivel 360 and that makes it easy to clean nooks and corners. You can actually touch the floor and feel the heat!

6. Keep checking the water level after every room. If you do not see steam, may be you are out of water. I was able to steam mop my 1400 sq. ft apartment with one single filling.
7. Once done, remove the Microfibre pad and wash it (either hand wash or machine wash).

Positives:
1. VFM, there is no other product at this price point with this quality and a responsible manufacturer.
2. Perfect steam mop for daily use.
3. Extremely easy to use and easy to clean.
4. Very good build quality and ATD. The cable holder and 15 amp converter shows the care taken from a usability stand point.
5. Availability of spares like Pads. If you buy B&H or Karcher you are going to run around trying to get one. You can buy pads directly from Xiolife easily.
6. Longggg cord makes it easy to clean a big room without trying to find multiple outlets.
7. Works on Laminated Wood or Tiles. Does not leave water behind which was my main concern since my entire house flooring is wood!

Negatives:
The steam is not very powerful to remove stains that are old. It does loosen them so you can remove from scrapping or wiping but it was not able to remove them on its own even after trying to steam that area for 1 min. I won't call it a negative given its price point. I think their advanced Twin Jet or Sonic  should be able to. I do not have them so cannot comment.

Tips:
1. If you feel its getting difficult to mop, check the microfibre pad. The more dirtier it gets the difficult it becomes to mop. Change it and continue. I use 1 pad for 3 bedrooms and change to second one for living, dinning, and kitchen.
2. If you have a stain, keep the mop on top and keep pressing the handle. It will emit steam continuously. This helps in loosening the dirt so you can wipe it.
3. If you see streaking on the floor, change the pads.
4. Always vacuum or sweep before you steam mop. This will make it easier and also will be more effective.
5. Always remove excess water in the cylinder after mopping. This helps to avoid any calcium build-up.
6. I use the carpet attachment also as a stand to store the mop upright :)
7. I think once a month addition of Vinegar might help remove sediments. I will check with Xiolife and update

Summary:
Highly recommend "Xiolife Champion Steam Mop" for daily use. Go ahead and order yours :). I keep keep updating after 3/6/12 month usage.
